ACTB pseudogene 15 (ACTBP15) is one of many processed pseudogenes found in the human genome that exhibit high sequence similarity to the canonical ACTB (actin beta) gene, which encodes a major cytoskeletal protein involved in cell motility, structure, and integrity[3][4][5]. Unlike the functional ACTB gene, ACTB pseudogenes—including ACTB pseudogene 15—typically lack regulatory elements or contain debilitating sequence mutations that prevent proper gene expression and translation into a functional protein. They exist as relics of evolution and are not known to have any physiological function, nor are they considered therapeutic targets. The abundance of ACTB pseudogenes in the genome can pose technical challenges in molecular assays, such as RT-PCR, due to the potential for cross-reactivity or misamplification, but ACTB pseudogene 15 itself does not contribute to disease or pharmacological actions[5][6].
