Overview

ACTB pseudogene 16 is a processed pseudogene derived from the ACTB (beta-actin) gene, located at one of many dispersed chromosomal loci[7][8]. While its sequence shares strong homology with the functional ACTB gene, it is nonfunctional (i.e., it is not transcribed or translated into an active protein)[8][9]. The presence of many ACTB pseudogenes in the human genome complicates molecular assays such as RT-PCR, because primers may inadvertently bind pseudogene sequences, leading to false or misleading results[1][11]. No known physiological or disease-related role has been documented for ACTB pseudogene 16. Notable considerations: - ACTBP16 is not an active gene, not a therapeutic target, and has no direct role in disease, drug action, or clinical biomarker panels[8][9][12]. - Its identification is mainly relevant in the context of assay design or bioinformatics (primer specificity, genome annotation)[1][11].
