Overview

ACTB pseudogene 7 refers to one of the dozens of noncoding DNA sequences in the human genome that are highly homologous to the functional beta-actin gene (ACTB), which resides on chromosome 7[2][3][4][7]. These pseudogenes are genomic fragments that resemble protein-coding genes but have accumulated mutations or structural differences that prevent them from encoding functional proteins. Despite their similarity to ACTB, pseudogenes such as ACTB pseudogene 7 are not functional, and their transcriptional potential or biological relevance is, at best, minimal or unknown. Their major relevance is technical; due to their high sequence similarity to the functional gene, they can cause problems in PCR assays, leading to confounded measurements and data misinterpretation if not carefully accounted for[4][5]. There is no evidence that ACTB pseudogene 7 or its transcript plays any normal physiological role or is involved in disease. ACTB pseudogene 7 (ACTBP7) is a pseudogene and not a protein, receptor, enzyme, transporter, or other classical drug target. It has no known physiological function, drug interactions, biomarker significance, or safety profile, and it is not a therapeutic target. Its main significance is as a potential source of technical error in molecular biology experiments that measure ACTB gene expression[4][5][6].

Biological functions

Other (Nonfunctional DNA sequence; does not have a known biological function as per current evidence[2][4])
03

Disease associations

Other (No direct role in human disease or pathology is documented for this pseudogene. The parent gene ACTB is associated with some syndromes, but its pseudogenes are not implicated. Their only relevance is as a confounder in molecular assays like RT-PCR[4][5][6].)
