Overview
Actin-associated protein FAM107A is a stress-inducible actin-binding protein with a conserved N-terminal DUF1151 domain, involved in the organization of the cytoskeleton through its ability to bind, stabilize, and bundle F-actin. It plays critical roles in cell cycle regulation, neuronal cell migration, and synaptic function, and acts as a candidate tumor suppressor downregulated in various cancers, likely through promoter hypermethylation and other epigenetic mechanisms. In the nervous system, FAM107A is highly expressed, essential for neural cell survival, migration, and synaptic plasticity, and may be implicated in neuropsychiatric disorders. Although no approved therapeutics directly target FAM107A, its roles in disease and cellular stress response highlight its potential as a diagnostic and prognostic biomarker
