Overview

Actin family pseudogene 1 (ACTP1) is a processed pseudogene located on chromosome 2q12.3. It belongs to the actin family, which contains many protein-coding members (such as ACTA1, ACTB, ACTG1) responsible for critical cellular activities including muscle contraction, cell structure maintenance, and motility; however, ACTP1 itself does not encode a functional protein and is not known to participate in any cellular processes or disease mechanisms. Pseudogenes like ACTP1 may arise during evolution through duplication or retrotransposition events, but most do not produce functional products. There is no evidence ACTP1 is a therapeutic target, nor is it associated with any drugs, disease, or biomarker use. ACTP1 should not be confused with functional actin family genes (e.g., ACTA1, ACTB), which are biologically important and can be associated with disease. The existence of ACTP1 as a pseudogene means it does not encode a functional receptor, enzyme, transporter, or any typical druggable protein class.
