Actin-like protein 6A (ACTL6A) is a member of the actin-related protein family, serving as a key subunit of various chromatin remodeling complexes and functioning as an epigenetic regulator. It plays crucial roles in chromatin remodeling, regulation of gene expression, stem cell maintenance, cell differentiation, cell cycle progression, DNA repair, muscle regeneration, and immune system development and function. Dysregulation of ACTL6A is implicated in several cancers, contributing to tumor progression, metastasis, and poor prognosis. While no direct-acting FDA-approved drugs specifically target ACTL6A, its inhibition or knockdown has been shown to sensitize cancer cells to chemotherapy, such as temozolomide, by altering DNA repair pathways.
