Activated leukocyte cell adhesion molecule (ALCAM)

Target
ALCAM
Molecular classification
Type I transmembrane glycoprotein, Immunoglobulin superfamily
01

Overview

Activated leukocyte cell adhesion molecule (ALCAM), also known as CD166, is a type I transmembrane glycoprotein belonging to the immunoglobulin superfamily. It mediates both homophilic and heterophilic cell-cell interactions and is involved in various biological processes, including immune regulation, neural development, hematopoiesis, and cancer metastasis. ALCAM interacts with CD6 and LILRB4 to modulate T-cell activation and proliferation. It is implicated as a cancer stem cell marker and its expression correlates with enhanced invasion/metastasis in some cancers.
