Activated protein C (APC) cofactor activity refers to the enhancement of APC’s anticoagulant function by specific cofactors, most notably protein S. APC is a serine protease that plays a central role in the regulation of blood coagulation, inflammation, and cell survival. Its primary anticoagulant action is the proteolytic inactivation of coagulation factors Va (FVa) and VIIIa (FVIIIa), which are essential for thrombin generation.
