Overview

Activating transcription factor 1 pseudogene 1 (ATF1P1) is a non-functional DNA sequence in the human genome that resembles the protein-coding gene ATF1 but does not produce a protein product[8][11]. Pseudogenes arise from evolutionary duplication or degradation of functional genes and lack protein-coding capacity due to mutations or interruptions in their sequence. ATF1P1 has no known physiological or disease-related roles, and is not considered a molecular target or biomarker in research or therapy[8][11]. The true functional target, Activating transcription factor 1 (ATF1), is a member of the bZIP family of transcription factors involved in regulating gene expression, growth, and cell survival, and is implicated in certain cancers[4][7]; however, ATF1P1 itself is not therapeutically relevant.
