Active immunization

Active immunization is the process by which an individual's immune system is stimulated to produce a specific adaptive immune response via exposure to an antigen, either naturally by infection or artificially through vaccination. This results in the production of disease-specific antibodies and long-term immunological memory, primarily via B and T lymphocyte responses.
