Activin A Receptor Type 1C (ACVR1C), also known as ALK7, is a type I receptor for the TGF-β superfamily. Upon ligand binding (e.g., activin A, Nodal), it phosphorylates SMAD2/3, leading to gene expression regulation. It plays a role in metabolic homeostasis, apoptosis, and cell proliferation, and is implicated in diseases such as obesity, diabetes, and cancer. Its function in cancer can be pro- or anti-tumorigenic depending on the cellular context. SB-431542 is a small molecule inhibitor of ACVR1C.
