Activin A Receptor Type 2A (ACVR2A) is a transmembrane serine/threonine kinase receptor belonging to the TGF-beta superfamily. It mediates signaling for activins and plays a key role in growth, cell differentiation, homeostasis, osteogenesis, and apoptosis. It acts as a myostatin receptor in muscle biology and is implicated in various diseases including cancer.
Ligand binding leads to dimerization with type I receptors, phosphorylation and activation of type I receptors, which then activate SMAD transcriptional regulators for downstream signaling, leading to gene expression changes.
