Activin A Receptor Type 2B (ACVR2B)

Target
ACVR2B
Molecular classification
Receptor, Transmembrane serine/threonine kinase receptor, TGF-beta superfamily
01

Overview

Activin A receptor type 2B (ACVR2B) is a transmembrane serine/threonine kinase receptor belonging to the TGF-β superfamily. It binds ligands such as activin-A, activin-B, inhibin-A, and myostatin (MSTN), initiating intracellular signaling cascades that regulate diverse biological processes, including neuronal differentiation, hair follicle development, FSH production, wound healing, extracellular matrix production, immunosuppression, carcinogenesis and muscle growth regulation. ACVR2B primarily signals through SMAD2 and SMAD3.

02

Mechanism of action

Ligand binding induces heteromeric complex formation with type I receptors, leading to SMAD2/3 phosphorylation and activation of downstream transcriptional regulation.
