Activin receptor-like kinase 1 (ALK1)

Target
ALK1
Molecular classification
Type I serine/threonine protein kinase, Receptor, TGF-beta superfamily receptor

Overview

Activin receptor-like kinase 1 (ALK1), also known as ACVRL1, is a type I cell-surface receptor serine/threonine kinase of the TGF-beta superfamily. Primarily expressed in vascular endothelial cells, it plays a critical role in angiogenesis, lymphatic vessel formation, and endothelial cell behavior. ALK1 primarily signals via Smad 1/5/9 in response to BMP9 and BMP10. Mutations or dysregulation of ALK1 are associated with hereditary hemorrhagic telangiectasia type 2, pulmonary arteriovenous malformations, and pulmonary arterial hypertension.
