Overview

ACTR3P2 encodes a non-functional genomic remnant broadly homologous to the actin-related protein 3 (ACTR3), which is a part of the Arp2/3 complex that mediates actin nucleation, cell migration, and various cytoskeletal functions[1][3]. However, as a pseudogene, ACTR3P2 does not produce a functional protein and is not implicated in cellular signaling, disease, or therapeutic targeting. Pseudogenes, including ACTR3P2, generally arise from ancestral coding genes through duplication or retrotransposition; they typically do not produce functional protein products nor contribute directly to biological pathways[2][4]. There is no evidence of involvement in human disease or responsiveness to known drugs. Key notes: - ACTR3P2 should not be mistaken for ACTR3, which is a protein-coding gene and a core component of the actin cytoskeleton regulation machinery[3]. - The inclusion of “pseudogene” in its name and lack of protein product/output means this should not be considered a therapeutic target. - Any references to actin nucleation, cytoskeletal organization, or related disease associations apply only to ACTR3 and the Arp2/3 complex, not ACTR3P2[1][3].
