ACVR2B-AS1 is a long non-coding RNA transcribed antisense to the activin receptor type IIB (ACVR2B) gene on chromosome 3p22.2[1][6]. It is involved in regulatory functions, potentially modulating expression of neighboring protein-coding genes such as ACVR2B. ACVR2B-AS1 expression is upregulated in several cancers, including liver cancer, where it is associated with poor prognosis and may act as a biomarker for adverse clinical outcomes[1][3]. Recent studies indicate that ACVR2B-AS1 plays a role in stem cell maintenance and apoptosis by interacting with glycolytic enzyme ALDOA, thereby influencing glycolysis and cell fate in human spermatogonial stem cells[5]. Its full mechanistic roles are not yet experimentally dissected, and no direct therapeutic drugs target it. However, its inclusion in immuno-oncology panels and links to pathways such as PI3K-Akt suggest a possible role in modulating tumor microenvironment and cancer progression[3].
