Overview

Acyl-CoA-binding domain-containing protein 7 (ACBD7) is a member of the acyl-CoA-binding protein family, characterized by the presence of a conserved acyl-CoA binding (ACB) domain. ACBD7 is predominantly expressed in the hypothalamus, especially in proopiomelanocortin (POMC) and GABAergic neurons, where it is processed into a bioactive neuropeptide named nonadecaneuropeptide (NDN)[1][2]. This peptide has been shown to act as a potent anorexigenic (appetite-reducing) signal, influencing food intake and energy expenditure by acting through an uncharacterized endozepine G protein-coupled receptor and engaging the melanocortin system[1][2]. While ACBD7 is involved in the central regulation of metabolic processes and has emerging roles in adipose tissue and possibly autoimmunity, it is not currently established as a therapeutic target, receptor, enzyme, or transporter for approved drugs[1][2][3].
