ACOXL
Molecular classification

Overview

Acyl-CoA oxidase-like protein (ACOXL) is a peroxisomal enzyme encoded by the ACOXL gene on chromosome 2 in humans. It is predicted to have acyl-CoA oxidase activity, bind fatty acids, and use flavin adenine dinucleotide (FAD) as a cofactor. ACOXL is involved in the peroxisomal beta-oxidation pathway, playing a role in the breakdown of very long-chain fatty acids. It is associated with metabolic pathways and has been linked to diseases such as inflamed seborrheic keratosis and retinitis pigmentosa. Its expression and functional activity suggest potential involvement in lipid metabolism disorders and possibly cancer, but it is not currently known as a direct drug target or as the target of any approved therapies[1][2][3][6].
