This reaction is essential for the metabolism of fatty acids, allowing them to enter pathways for energy production (β-oxidation), lipid synthesis, and other metabolic processes. ACSM5 is principally classified as a member of the acyl-CoA synthetase enzyme family and is encoded by the ACSM5 gene, which is expressed in humans and other mammals[2][3][5]. Dysfunction or dysregulation of ACSM5 activity has been implicated in metabolic reprogramming related to cancer progression, especially hepatocellular carcinoma, but more research is needed to define its full clinical relevance[3].
