ADAM metallopeptidase domain 2 pseudogene

Molecular classification
Other (pseudogene)
01

Overview

ADAM metallopeptidase domain 2 pseudogene is a noncoding DNA segment in the human genome derived from the ADAM metallopeptidase domain 2 gene. Pseudogenes like this are usually generated through reverse transcription and retrotransposition of mature mRNAs and, due to a lack of promoters and coding capacity, are not transcribed into functional proteins[2]. They do not play direct roles in biological processes or serve as drug targets. The functional ADAM2 protein is a membrane-anchored glycoprotein involved in cell adhesion and fertilization in sperm, but its pseudogene does not contribute to these processes[1][2][5].
