Overview

ADAM metallopeptidase with thrombospondin type 1 motif 19 (ADAMTS19) is a secreted zinc-dependent metalloproteinase belonging to the ADAMTS family, characterized by a multidomain structure including a metalloprotease domain and multiple thrombospondin type 1 motifs. These proteins primarily regulate extracellular matrix (ECM) composition by cleaving matrix proteins such as procollagen and proteoglycans, and contribute to tissue morphogenesis and remodeling. While the specific substrates and functions of ADAMTS19 have not yet been fully defined, it shares high sequence similarity with ADAMTS16 and may participate in developmental or disease processes involving the heart and connective tissue. Dysregulation of ADAMTS family members is implicated in a variety of pathological conditions, including cardiac valvular disease, arthritis, and cancer, positioning these enzymes as potential therapeutic targets. However, direct drugs or biomarker applications for ADAMTS19 are yet to emerge in clinical practice.
