Overview

ADAMTS9 antisense RNA 1 (ADAMTS9-AS1) is a long non-coding RNA (lncRNA) transcribed antisense to the ADAMTS9 gene. It does not encode a protein but performs important regulatory functions in various biological processes and diseases, particularly diverse cancers. ADAMTS9-AS1 can act as a competing endogenous RNA (ceRNA) by binding and sequestering microRNAs, thus affecting the expression of specific target genes. Studies have demonstrated that ADAMTS9-AS1 regulates cell proliferation, migration, invasion, apoptosis, and autophagy, and is implicated in the modulation of signaling pathways such as Wnt/β-catenin, PI3K/AKT/mTOR, and ferroptosis via GPX4. Its expression is often dysregulated in cancers, with elevated or reduced levels correlating with tumor behavior and patient prognosis. ADAMTS9-AS1 is therefore being explored both as a potential biomarker and as a therapeutic target in oncology and other disease contexts[2][4][6][8].
