Target intelligence / Profile preview
The adaptive immune system – polyantigenic vaccine response is a complex physiological process characterized by the coordinated activation of diverse T and B cell populations against multiple distinct antigens (Janeway et al., 2001). Unlike monovalent vaccines that target a single epitope, polyantigenic strategies aim to broaden the immune repertoire to provide protection against pathogens with high genetic diversity or to address tumor heterogeneity in oncology (Pollard & Bijker, 2021). This process involves professional antigen-presenting cells (APCs) processing various peptides and presenting them via Major Histocompatibility Complex (MHC) molecules to elicit a robust polyclonal response (Abbas et al., 2014). In clinical practice, this approach is exemplified by multivalent vaccines for Streptococcus pneumoniae and Human Papillomavirus, as well as personalized neoantigen vaccines in cancer immunotherapy (Sahin & Türeci, 2018). While highly effective for broad protection, the complexity of stimulating multiple immune pathways simultaneously requires careful monitoring for potential off-target effects or autoimmune cross-reactivity.
Induction of a broad, polyclonal adaptive immune response through the simultaneous presentation of multiple distinct antigens to T and B lymphocytes by antigen-presenting cells.
