Overview

The "adaptogenic pathway" refers to the broad, interconnected network of cellular signaling, gene regulation, and physiological responses modulated by adaptogen compounds. Adaptogens, which include certain botanical extracts, are not single-target drugs but modulate multiple molecular pathways involved in the body’s stress response, particularly the neuroendocrine-immune axis. These compounds enhance non-specific resistance to stress by activating homeostatic and adaptive processes at the molecular and cellular level, such as the HPA (hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal) axis, protein kinases, and heat shock proteins. The term "adaptogenic pathway" is scientifically imprecise as a molecular target; “adaptogen” refers to a pharmacological category of agents and their broad, multi-pathway modes of action. Adaptogens modulate several targets and pathways but "adaptogenic pathway" is not a recognized drug discovery target or therapeutic molecular entity.
