Adaptogenic response modulation

01

Overview

Adaptogenic response modulation refers to the process by which adaptogenic compounds (mainly from plants) enhance an organism’s non-specific resistance to stress, usually by modulating the physiological network that coordinates the stress response. These effects are typically mediated by modifying hormone levels (especially cortisol via partial agonism at glucocorticoid receptors), activating regulatory pathways in the hypothalamic–pituitary–adrenal (HPA) axis, inducing expression of protective proteins such as Hsp70/Hsp72, and influencing cellular energy states (e.g., normalizing ATP production). Adaptogens do not act on a specific receptor or molecular target but instead operate as complex metabolic and stress-response modulators, which differentiates them from drugs targeting defined biomolecules or receptors.
