Adaptor protein complex 1 subunit beta-1 (AP1B1)

Target
AP1B1
Molecular classification
Adaptin protein family, Vesicular trafficking complex, Clathrin adaptor complex component, Other
01

Overview

AP1B1 encodes the beta-1 subunit of adaptor protein complex 1 (AP-1), a component of clathrin-coated vesicles primarily localized at the cytoplasmic face of the Golgi complex. The AP-1 complex functions in the recruitment of clathrin to membranes and the recognition of sorting signals within the cytosolic domains of transmembrane proteins, thereby mediating protein sorting in intracellular trafficking pathways. It is a structural protein, not a receptor or enzyme, and is essential for normal cell physiology. Mutations or defects are associated with meningioma, as well as certain syndromic disorders affecting the skin, eyes, and hearing. The complex is a heterotetramer, and AP1B1 is one of its large subunits.
