Overview

Adaptor-related protein complex 1 subunit mu-2 (AP1M2) is a protein component of the heterotetrameric clathrin-associated adaptor protein complex 1 (AP-1), which is involved in protein sorting and vesicle trafficking at the trans-Golgi network (TGN) and endosomes[1][2][5][6]. AP1M2 mediates the recruitment of cargo proteins, selectively recognizing tyrosine-based sorting signals in the cytoplasmic tails of transmembrane proteins[1][2][5]. It is evolutionarily conserved, ubiquitously expressed in eukaryotes, and has been implicated in diverse physiological and pathological processes including thrombosis risk, tumor progression, and immune microenvironment modulation[2][4]. Variations or altered expression of AP1M2 may serve as diagnostic or prognostic biomarkers in certain cancers and may influence disease susceptibility[2][4][6]. **Note:** AP1M2 is not currently classified as a typical druggable therapeutic target such as a receptor, enzyme, or transporter, but rather a structural component of a vesicle trafficking complex with emerging roles in disease mechanisms and biomarker research[1][2][4][6].
