This gene represents a non-functional pseudogene that shares sequence homology with the adaptor-related protein complex 2, beta 1 subunit (AP2B1). AP2B1 is essential as a scaffold subunit in the AP-2 adaptor complex for clathrin-mediated endocytosis, facilitating vesicle formation and cargo selection at the plasma membrane[1][3][5]. However, the pseudogene (ENSG00000225191/LOC100131348) contains disruptions such as deletions, insertions, or premature stop codons and does not produce a functional protein, nor does it contribute to any known biological process or serve as a target for therapeutic intervention[2].
