Overview

Adaptor related protein complex 3 subunit mu 2 (AP3M2) is a medium subunit of the heterotetrameric adaptor protein complex 3 (AP-3), which is involved in the trafficking of proteins from the Golgi to lysosomes and specialized organelles, and plays a critical role in vesicle formation and cargo sorting.[1][2] In neurons, AP-3 containing AP3M2 is specifically implicated in the sorting and trafficking of synaptic vesicle proteins, with distinct isoforms mediating unique functions in neuronal physiology. AP3M2 deficiencies have been linked to various disorders, including some cancers and neurological diseases. There are no known drugs directly targeting AP3M2, but its status as a biomarker—especially in colorectal cancer—is under investigation.[7][1][2]
