Overview

ADCY2 antisense RNA 1 (ADCY2-AS1) is a long non-coding RNA transcript that is transcribed from the genomic region antisense to the ADCY2 coding gene. As an antisense RNA, it may participate in the regulation of the sense ADCY2 gene through mechanisms that include transcriptional interference, regulation of chromatin structure, mRNA stability, or translation inhibition, although its precise biological role has not been characterized in detail[3]. Antisense RNAs are increasingly recognized as important regulators of gene expression and may act in cis (affecting the same genomic locus) or trans (affecting distant loci)[3]. There are currently no specific reports identifying ADCY2-AS1 as a direct therapeutic target or biomarker in disease, distinguishing it from protein-coding targets such as ADCY2 itself, whose dysregulation and genetic variants are implicated in neurological disorders and some cancers[2][4]. - The entry is not incorrect; ADCY2-AS1 is a valid gene annotation for a long non-coding (antisense) RNA. - There is currently no direct evidence for targeted therapy or clinical utility for ADCY2-AS1. - Most of the functional and disease-related literature focuses on ADCY2 (the protein-coding gene) rather than ADCY2-AS1[1][2][4]. - General mechanisms of antisense RNA function are described in [3]. If you require information about the protein-coding ADCY2 gene (Adenylyl cyclase type 2), it is a well-studied enzyme and therapeutic target in various contexts, but this is separate from ADCY2-AS1[1][2][4].
