Target intelligence / Profile preview

Adenosine deaminase, RNA-specific, B1 pseudogene (ADARB1 pseudogene)

Target
ADARB1 pseudogene
Molecular classification
Pseudogene, Non-coding RNA (if transcribed)
01

Overview

Adenosine deaminase, RNA-specific, B1 pseudogene is a non-functional segment of DNA on chromosome X that is homologous to the ADARB1 gene encoding double-stranded RNA-specific editase 1, but contains sequence changes that prevent it from coding a functional protein. Like other pseudogenes, it may be transcribed and could function in gene regulation, such as acting as a microRNA decoy or generating regulatory RNAs through the RNA interference pathway, although there is no direct evidence of a functional consequence for this specific pseudogene. Pseudogenes are generally considered "non-targets" for therapeutic intervention due to their lack of protein product.
