Overview
The P2Y12 receptor is a G protein-coupled receptor that serves as a chemoreceptor for adenosine diphosphate (ADP). It is primarily expressed on the surface of blood platelets, where it plays a central role in platelet activation, aggregation, and thrombus formation. The receptor is also found in microglia within the central nervous system, where it participates in neuroprotective functions.
