Overview

Adenosine receptors are a family of G protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs) that mediate the physiological and pharmacological effects of adenosine. There are four well-characterized subtypes: A1, A2A, A2B, and A3. They are involved in a wide range of biological processes, including neuromodulation, cardiac function, immune response, and inflammation. Developing selective drugs targeting specific adenosine receptor subtypes remains challenging due to the widespread distribution and sometimes opposing functions of these receptors.
