Enzyme, Membrane Protein, Transporter (P-type), ATP Synthase (F-type), Ectoenzyme, Ion pump
01

Overview

Adenosine triphosphatases (ATPases) are a family of enzymes that catalyze the hydrolysis of ATP into ADP and inorganic phosphate, releasing energy used for various cellular processes. They are essential in energy metabolism, active transport across membranes, muscle contraction, and many other biological functions. Major classes include F-type, V-type, P-type, and Ectoenzymes.

Other names
ATP hydrolase

Mechanism of action

Hydrolysis of ATP to ADP and inorganic phosphate, releasing energy. Some ATPases can synthesize ATP from ADP and Pi using an electrochemical gradient.
