Overview

Adenosylhomocysteinase pseudogene 3 (AHCYP3) is classified as a pseudogene of the adenosylhomocysteinase (AHCY) gene family. Pseudogenes are genomic DNA sequences similar to normal genes but are non-functional; they arise from duplication or retrotransposition events of their parent functional genes and typically do not code for an active protein. As a pseudogene, AHCYP3 does not encode a functional protein, does not possess known enzymatic, receptor, transporter, or therapeutic activity, and is not associated with recognized therapeutic targeting or disease roles. There is no current evidence that AHCYP3 (as opposed to its parental functional gene AHCY) is involved in drug interaction, disease pathology, therapeutic mechanisms, or biomarker status.
