Adenosylmethionine decarboxylase 1 pseudogene 1 (AMD1P1) is a processed pseudogene derived from the gene encoding adenosylmethionine decarboxylase 1, an enzyme involved in polyamine biosynthesis. As a pseudogene, AMD1P1 does not code for a functional protein and generally lacks regulatory regions, coding sequence integrity, and protein expression[2]. While pseudogenes can regulate gene expression in some contexts, in general, they are not therapeutically relevant or targeted by drugs. They are considered genetic relics or "fossil" that have lost their original function due to mutations[2]. Pseudogenes like AMD1P1 are classified based on their biogenesis as either unitary, unprocessed (duplicated), or processed; AMD1P1 fits the "processed pseudogene" class[2]. Some pseudogenes have roles as competitive endogenous RNAs or can act as disease biomarkers, but there is no evidence supporting such a role for AMD1P1 specifically[2]. AMD1P1 should not be considered a valid drug target or therapeutic receptor/enzyme. AMD1P1 refers to a processed pseudogene, not a functional protein, receptor, enzyme, transporter, or other molecule that can be directly targeted therapeutically. It does not have a known biological function, disease role, associated biomarkers, or safety concerns relevant to drug development[2].
