Adenosylmethionine decarboxylase 1 pseudogene 2 (AMD1P2) is a processed pseudogene, homologous to the gene encoding the enzyme adenosylmethionine decarboxylase 1 (AMD1). While the active enzyme is central to the biosynthesis of polyamines and has well-documented cellular and pathological functions, AMD1P2 itself is non-coding and is not known to produce any functional protein[2][5][8]. Pseudogenes like AMD1P2 often arise via duplication or retrotransposition and can be found in several chromosomal loci, but they are not expressed or only transcribed at low levels without producing a functional protein product and have no recognized role in health or disease.
