Overview

Adenosylmethionine decarboxylase 1 pseudogene 3 (AMD1P3) is classified as a pseudogene in the human genome[3][2]. Pseudogenes are genomic sequences that resemble known genes but harbor mutations (such as frame-shifts, premature stop codons, or disruptions in promoter elements) that prevent them from producing functional proteins[6]. AMD1P3 was derived from the ancestral AMD1 gene, which encodes adenosylmethionine decarboxylase 1, an enzyme essential for polyamine biosynthesis in cells. As a pseudogene, AMD1P3 is considered nonfunctional at the protein level, and no specific role in human biology or disease has been attributed to this locus. Emerging studies suggest some pseudogenes may influence gene regulation in certain contexts[4][6], yet there is no functional evidence for AMD1P3. It is not recognized as a therapeutic target, biomarker, or player in disease mechanisms.

Biological functions

Most pseudogenes, including AMD1P3, are not known to have canonical biological functions. Some pseudogenes can regulate gene expression via RNA-based mechanisms (e.g., acting as miRNA sponges), but there is no published evidence of AMD1P3 having such activity
03

Disease associations

None established. While some pseudogenes can influence cancer or other diseases via noncoding RNA mechanisms[4][6], there is no evidence for AMD1P3 having any disease association or pathogenic role
04

Interacting drugs

None. There are no known drugs targeting AMD1P3 or interacting with its transcript or encoded (nonfunctional) protein
