Adenovirus Antigen-Specific Cytotoxic T Lymphocyte (Adenovirus-specific CTL)

Target
Adenovirus-specific CTL
Molecular classification
T cell, Cytotoxic T lymphocyte (CTL), CD8+ T cell
01

Overview

Adenovirus antigen-specific cytotoxic T lymphocytes (CTLs) are a subset of CD8+ T cells that recognize and kill cells infected with adenoviruses by detecting viral peptides presented on MHC class I molecules. These CTLs play a crucial role in the immune response to adenoviral infections, particularly in immunocompromised individuals or following stem cell transplantation. They function by recognizing infected cells via their T cell receptor, releasing cytotoxic granules (perforin/granzymes), expressing Fas ligand, and secreting cytokines like IFN-gamma.
