Adenylate cyclase 6 (ADCY6) is a membrane-associated enzyme that catalyzes the conversion of adenosine triphosphate (ATP) to cyclic adenosine monophosphate (cAMP). cAMP is a crucial second messenger involved in transducing signals from G protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs) and regulates numerous physiological processes including cardiac contractility, vascular tone, and cellular responses to hormones and neurotransmitters. ADCY6 is regulated by G proteins, calcium ions, nitric oxide, and protein kinases, and its dysregulation is associated with various diseases, including lethal congenital contracture syndrome, neuropathy-arthrogryposis syndrome and cardiovascular diseases.
