Adenylate kinase 2 pseudogene 2 (AK2P2) is classified as a pseudogene. Pseudogenes are genomic DNA sequences similar to normal genes but are non-functional; they typically result from gene duplication or retrotransposition and lack the capability to encode a functional protein. AK2P2 is a non-coding sequence related to the functional Adenylate kinase 2 (AK2), which is involved in phosphate transfer and cellular energy homeostasis. Unlike AK2, AK2P2 does not code for a protein and has no reported biological, pharmacological, or disease roles[4]. No drugs are known to interact with this pseudogene, and it is not considered a therapeutic target.
