Adenylate kinase 4 pseudogene 1 (AK4P1) is a processed pseudogene located on human chromosome 17. It is transcribed into a long non-coding RNA (lncRNA) of 672 bases. Although it does not encode a protein, it influences pancreatic adenocarcinoma pathology by upregulating the expression of its parent gene, adenylate kinase 4 (AK4), contributing to cancer cell viability, resistance to apoptosis, and potentially the tumor microenvironment. Its transcript is elevated in exosomes from the blood of pancreatic cancer patients compared to healthy controls, making it a candidate biomarker for the disease.
