Overview

ADGRL1 antisense RNA 1 (ADGRL1-AS1) is a long non-coding RNA gene transcribed in the antisense orientation relative to the ADGRL1 (Adhesion G protein-coupled receptor L1) gene. Antisense RNAs like ADGRL1-AS1 regulate gene expression, often at the level of transcription or mRNA stability, typically in a gene-specific and cis-acting fashion (i.e., regulating the gene neighboring it on the opposite DNA strand). These lncRNAs can modulate the chromatin environment and influence the transcriptional activity of their sense counterparts through several mechanisms, such as direct RNA-RNA interactions or recruitment of chromatin-modifying complexes. Disease associations specific to ADGRL1-AS1 are not well defined, but its locus has been linked to developmental delay, behavioral, and neuropsychiatric issues in the context of broader lncRNA dysfunction. There is no evidence to support its role as a direct therapeutic target, nor are there drugs known to interact with it.
