While the parental ADH5 gene plays important enzymatic roles in formaldehyde and S-nitrosoglutathione metabolism and is involved in cellular detoxification and nitric oxide signaling, ADH5P4 itself does not encode a functional protein and is not known to participate in any biological pathways, disease processes, or therapeutic mechanisms.
