Target intelligence / Profile preview
Adherence to psycho-behavioral programs is defined as the extent to which a patient's behavior—such as attending therapy sessions, practicing cognitive-behavioral techniques, or implementing lifestyle modifications—coincides with the agreed-upon recommendations from a healthcare provider (WHO, 2003). It is not a molecular target, such as a receptor or enzyme, but rather a multifaceted clinical phenomenon influenced by psychological, social, and economic factors (NIH, 2021). Adherence is a critical determinant of therapeutic success, particularly in the management of chronic conditions like depression, substance use disorders, and obesity, where behavioral change is the primary driver of health outcomes (StatPearls, 2023). While no drugs interact with adherence as a molecular substrate, various pharmacological agents (e.g., those used in medication-assisted treatment for addiction) are prescribed to stabilize patients and improve their capacity to adhere to comprehensive behavioral programs (PubMed, 2022). Poor adherence remains a major challenge in medicine, often leading to suboptimal therapeutic efficacy and increased mortality rates (NIH, 2021).
Not applicable; this is a behavioral outcome and clinical metric rather than a molecular site of drug action.
