ADGRF5P2, or "adhesion G protein-coupled receptor F5 pseudogene 2", is a non-protein-coding sequence in the human genome that is related to the bona fide adhesion G protein-coupled receptor F5 (ADGRF5/GPR116). Pseudogenes generally arise from gene duplication or retrotransposition events and accrue mutations that render them nonfunctional. ADGRF5P2 does not encode any functional protein or receptor, lacks biological activity, and is not considered a receptor, enzyme, transporter, or any other drug target. It is sometimes included in gene databases due to sequence similarity and historical artifacts but has no pharmacological or biological significance. In contrast, the protein-coding gene ADGRF5 (GPR116) is an adhesion GPCR implicated in cell adhesion, immune regulation, and disease and is an active subject of drug development research, but ADGRF5P2 is not involved in any such function.
