Overview

Adhesion molecule with Ig-like domain 1 (AMIGO1) is a cell-surface protein belonging to the immunoglobulin superfamily. It promotes neurite growth, fasciculation, and contributes to myelination and regeneration in the nervous system. AMIGO1 mediates both homophilic and heterophilic cell-cell adhesion, influences signal transduction through its intracellular domain, and acts as a regulator of voltage-dependent potassium channel gating (notably in KCNB1 complexes). It is specifically and highly expressed in neural tissues, especially the brain, and plays critical roles in both development and adult nervous system plasticity
