Adipocyte-associated metabolic related lncRNA 1 (ASMER1) is a long non-coding RNA highly enriched in human adipocytes and regulated by metabolic and inflammatory states. ASMER1 is conserved at the exon level and distributed in both nuclear and cytoplasmic compartments of adipocytes[3]. Functional studies using antisense oligonucleotide-mediated knockdown demonstrate that ASMER1 is required for normal adipogenesis, adiponectin secretion, and lipid mobilization. Expression of ASMER1 is upregulated in adipose tissue from obese humans and mice, signifying its role in obesity pathophysiology[1][3]. Loss of ASMER1 function adversely affects fat cell differentiation and metabolic functions, indicating its potential as a novel therapeutic target for metabolic diseases. At present, no drugs are listed as directly interacting with ASMER1, but its modulation is feasible by genetic or RNA-targeted approaches.
Antisense oligonucleotides targeting ASMER1 suppress adipogenesis, adiponectin production, and lipid mobilization; experimental knockdown reveals direct impact on fat precursor cell differentiation and mature adipocyte function[3][1].
