Overview

ADIPINT is a human adipocyte-specific long non-coding RNA that binds directly to the mitochondrial enzyme pyruvate carboxylase and regulates its abundance and enzymatic activity in fat cells[1][3][5]. This interaction governs adipocyte triglyceride synthesis, lipid droplet size, and the balance of lipid metabolism, acting as a post-transcriptional regulator of energy storage and expenditure[1][3][4][8]. ADIPINT expression is increased in the white adipose tissue of obese individuals and correlates positively with body mass index, fat cell size, plasma triglyceride levels, and indices of insulin resistance[5]. Inhibition of ADIPINT decreases pyruvate carboxylase activity, reduces lipid synthesis, and limits lipid accumulation in adipocytes, suggesting its role as a metabolic regulator in obesity and insulin resistance pathogenesis[1][3][5]. No pharmacologic modulators or clinical targeting strategies for ADIPINT have been described, but it may represent a novel therapeutic target or biomarker for metabolic diseases involving adipose tissue dysfunction[1][3][5].
