Overview

Adiponectin receptor 1 pseudogene 1 (ADIPOR1P1) is a non-protein-coding genomic segment with high sequence similarity to the protein-coding gene Adiponectin receptor 1 (ADIPOR1). Pseudogenes like ADIPOR1P1 are considered "genomic fossils" and typically do not produce functional proteins; most are transcriptionally silent. A subset of pseudogenes can regulate their parent genes through RNA-mediated mechanisms, such as acting as microRNA decoys or modulating mRNA stability, but there is no published evidence of such functional roles specifically for ADIPOR1P1[2][5]. ADIPOR1P1 does not have a direct biological, therapeutic, or pharmacological role. Its parent gene, ADIPOR1, encodes a functional receptor involved in metabolic regulation and is a potential target in diseases such as diabetes and cancer, but ADIPOR1P1 itself is not used therapeutically and is not relevant for drug targeting[1][6].
